These shifting conditions, in turn, forced traders to revise their outlook for the Bank of England\u2019s (BoE) monetary path. Just a month ago, in late February, investors were pricing in at least two rate cuts this year. Now, the most probable scenario is that the UK regulator will either hold borrowing costs steady or even risk raising them.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Household inflation expectations\u2014which skyrocketed to 5.4% in March from 3.3% in February\u2014only add fuel to the fire. Economists project that consumer prices will peak in the 3.5%\u20133.6% range in the second half of 2026. As a result, rate cuts could be postponed until year-end or even pushed into 2027.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>This sudden shift in market expectations weighs heavily on the pound. The national economy looks ill\u2011prepared for tighter monetary conditions, raising traders\u2019 concerns.
